Sixteen teams competed; when it was all over, only two were left standing.
Those two teams, 3Ls Amanda Barrera and Jacqueline Hicks, along with 2Ls Keith Darsee and Mingzi Ouyang, will represent The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in the ABA Representation in Mediation Regional at Faulkner University School of Law in Montgomery, Ala., Feb. 22-23. The teams will be coached by Marya Kolman, director of mediation services for the domestic relations and juvenile courts in Columbus and an adjunct professor at Moritz, and Dottie Painter, an attorney and mediation specialist in Columbus.
In this competition, law student teams role-play as attorneys and clients to model appropriate preparation for and representation of a client in mediation. Competing over three nights, the winning teams negotiated successful outcomes for their clients in a labor dispute, a landlord-tenant issue, and a breach of a licensing agreement.
The Representation in Mediation Competition, now in its seventh year at Moritz, was coordinated by the Moot Court & Lawyering Skills Governing Board under the direction of Associate Justice Brandon Riddle, a 2L.
